Troy Breaks Ground on New Arena
Thought you guys might enjoy this since we are doing the same thing as them right now. A little smaller and quite a bit simpler than ours, but, still, very nice. There are also pictures that you can go to from this page. http://www.troy.edu/news/archives/2010/ ... aking.html

Re: Troy Breaks Ground on New Arena
That looks like a great deal on the arena they're getting. I'm guessing it doesn't have the 2nd level of seating our does, and maybe not the big 2-court practice facility like ours does. Isn't SFA's Johnson Coliseum pretty similar to Troy's new arena? Also, since we're talking arenas and I know a few of the guys on this board have seen the SLC gyms...what is the reason for the missing 3 sections of seats behind Sam's press row? Are there retractable seats behind there?

Press row fits there. It is a multi-purpose arena and there are some retractable seats there, but if they were retracted, there would be no press row.

Re: Troy Breaks Ground on New Arena
I saw that Pete intends to move the athletics department and staff from their present location at the base of Maverick Stadium to offices at the new arena. That will free up a lot of office space at the stadium. I wonder what plans they have for that space. Maybe more locker rooms, training rooms, weight rooms or class rooms.
For sure it will move the center of gravity of the department eastward and away from the football stadium. Baseball, Track, Tennis and Softball will be even farther away from the Volleyball and Basketball teams. I wonder if the facilities in the basement of Texas Hall will continue to be used. Perhaps this will give us the opportunity to add a couple more women's sports for little expense. We've been talking about Bowling, Golf and Soccer. With the new arena, Women's Gymnastics would be a potential revenue sport, as it always brings in good crowds at other schools.
With the basement potentially open, a shooting range could be a possiblity as well. We used to have nationally ranked rifle and pistol teams before the range in the old PE building was shut down for environmental reasons....
